Thanks Jane,

My mum worked in a tea room in Largs, but lived in West Kilbride.

House prices have went up quite a bit in West Kilbride as it has become a popular commuter village with a lot of new houses being built and the village itself being brought back to life with new shops.

Largs has always been expensive ,used to be called gods waiting room!

I was down at Largs the other day,the pier looks much the same just a bit bigger,I was annoyed though as they have erected a gate so its a no go area which is disappointing.

The pier was built to allow both ferries to berth at the pier during the summer months previously one of them had to go to Fairlie for the evening.

The weather has been most annoying up here over the xmas period [when I had some leave]
the Clyde from Clydebank to Toward point was covered in a low lying fog which refused to burn off despite the sun being out,Clydeport closed the river a few times which resulted in quite a number of ships at anchor, most of them went up during the hours of darkness.

Sadly Clydeport didn't close the river a few years back when we had bad fog,you may recall the sad story of the Flying Phantom,

Have you seen these web cams on the Clyde

Thanks for the webcams Gerry and I've added them to my blog margin!

That's an off-putting nickname for Largs, maybe we should think again!! I don't know where we'll end up but want to be very near the Clyde, have thought of Dunoon as well but it wouldn't be so good for transport links. Won't rule it out though. Can't make proper plans until we have this place valued in April.

Pity the weather was so bad when you had time off. We haven't had much snow just here but the roads are icy.

Yes, I remembered the Flying Phantom, what a tragic thing to happen.

Annoying about the gate at Largs pier, that's a very strange thing to do, to not allow the public on the pier.
