Daring Launch

Just two weeks to launch and it still looks a bit chaotic.
1 February 2006 its launch day from the Scotstoun yard on the Clyde.
Slowly the tugs start to arrive.

The Marines put on a display for the public.

The tugs take up their final position, waiting for the pomp and ceremony in the shed to finish.

The tugs waste no time and move in quickly to secure her.

Collecting the debris from the launch.

Daring makes her way to KGV dock to be manoeuvred so she can make the short journey to wet dock were she will remain for a few years while being fitted out.

The bulker Toro let out a sharp blast of her horn as Daring past.

The marines escort Daring, security was indeed very tight with marines hiding in the bushes!

St Andrews Suspension Bridge

St Andrews suspension bridge in Glasgow Green was built in 1854 by Charles O'Neil and the engineer Neil Robson.

The bridge connects the Green to Hutchesontown . With its fluted cast Iron Corinthian columns this little bridge comes as a surprise to many who only know the more visible suspension bridge in Clyde Street. There was originally a toll for this little bridge of 2d a week.

Russian Submarine.

A bit of the beaten track for The River Clyde blog,I took these photographs in 1990 at Cairn Ryan.

The submarines in the breakers yard are Russian, I recall they made the news when they arrived as the tugs that towed them encountered stormy weather and one of the submarines almost sunk.

Sail Boats

Sailing regattas are popular on the Clyde resorts all year round.

RMAS Forceful

RMAS Forceful was built by Yarrow Shipbuilders Scotstoun and launched on 14/05/1957.
Sadly she was scrapped not long after these photographs were taken in 1990.

When her days were over as a tug she was used as a missile target, but survived. Attempts were made to have her saved from the breakers yard but alas none were successful.

Bitter

Bitter awaiting the arrival of Nordstern.

NordStern

Nordstern arrived upriver shortly after Sten Tor,she was helped by the tug Bitter who manoeuvred her into the Lobnitz Basin.
