Submarines

The Gareloch in the Firth of Clyde is home to HM Naval Base Clyde,it is home to the United Kingdom's strategic nuclear deterrent and the headquarters of the Royal Navy in Scotland.

The submarines are a familiar sight on the Clyde, nearly always escorted by RMAS tugs , miliatry police and Royal Marines!

Horse Island

Horse island is located about one kilometre offshore from Ardrossan, although flat and barren looking it is managed by the RSPB as a nature reserve.

There is no access to the island, the best way to view it is to board the the Ardrossan/Arran ferry, the structure you can see in the photograph is an old light beacon.
