Govan Town Hall

The silhouette of Govan Town Hall,built a few hundred yards from the once famous Govan dry docks.

Govan of course was famous for its shipyards the first of which were built in the 1840s,the town hall which was built in 1901 to a fairly grand design for a Burgh shows the wealth and optimism that must have prevailed in the area the time.

The architects were Thomson and Sandilands.

Approaching Rothsey

The Waverley is the worlds last sea going paddle steamer,launched on the 2 October 1946 at The A and J Inglis yard in the River Kelvin.

After many years of successful sailing on the Clyde and her sea lochs ,her owners Cal Mac withdrew her from service in 1973.

She was presented to the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society for £1 ,with an incredible amount of hard work from many enthusiasts she re entered service in 1975.

Each summer she plies the waters of the Clyde and the Thames ,she is now the last in a long line of steamers which started with Henry Bells Comet in 1812.
