Rockpiper






Fallpipe vessels are able to deposit stone accurately at great depths. The crew use a remote-controlled system to position the end of the fallpipe just a few metres over the placement level. Then the stone is fed through the fallpipe while the vessel moves over the destination area.

This method is frequently used in the oil and gas industry for levelling the seabed for pipelines or to provide pipelines with a protective layer of stone.

She is seen here at Ardneil Bay were cables had recently been laid.

Nexans Skagerrak a cable-laying vessel seen entering the Great harbour at Greenock she was helping to lay cables at Ardneil Bay .

Pole Star










NLV Pole Star is a lighthouse tender operated by the Northern Lighthouse Board (NLB), the body responsible for the operation of lighthouses and marine navigation aids around the coasts of Scotland and the Isle of Man.

Pole Star was completed in 2000 by Ferguson Shipbuilders on the River Clyde. She is the fourth NLB vessel to carry the name and replaced the 37 year old NLV Fingal. In memory of this vessel,
