RRS Discovery

 The NOC operates two world-class research ships with state-of-the-art capabilities. Our newest research ship and the fourth ship of its name, RRS Discovery is a multidisciplinary ship, specifically designed for the challenges of 21st century oceanography.

RRS Discovery was designed by A.S. Skipsteknisk and was delivered to the National Oceanography Centre on the 8 July 2013. Fitted with the most up-to-date and high-tech instruments and equipment, it is ideal for oceanic exploration.

SS Explorer

 The SS Explorer is a historic steam-powered fisheries research vessel currently undergoing restoration in Leith Docks, Edinburgh. Launched in 1955, she is one of the last surviving sea-going steam trawlers in the world and represents a critical era of Scottish maritime and scientific innovation.

Horizon Geodrill

 Built in 2013 the 81.6m vessel is capable of 13.5 knots, equipped with 48 berths and has both a survey lab & Geotechnical laboratory on board for scientific testing,photographed in Leith Edinburgh.

RV Prince Madog

The Prince Madog is a state-of-the-art, purpose-built research vessel commissioned by Bangor University using a £3.5 million Joint Infrastructure Fund grant. The vessel is managed and operated by O.S.Energy, delivered and in service since July 2001.

The Prince Madog enables the UK's marine scientists to study the biology, chemistry, geology and physics of our seas. Designed to take up to ten scientists and 20 students. The School of Ocean Sciences, Bangor and other university departments in the UK also use the vessel as a teaching platform, training the next generation of marine scientists.

 

MRV Alba-Na-Mara

 Marine Research Vessel (MRV) Alba-Na-Mara is a small marine and fisheries research vessel, operated by the Marine Scotland directorate of the Scottish Government.

Primarily operating in the inshore zone, Alba na Mara collects data on fish, Nephrops and scallop stocks.

 FUGRO GALAXY is a Research/Survey Vessel that was built in 2011  and is sailing under the flag of Bahamas.
