Spitsbergen

The MS Spitsbergen is a dedicated polar expedition ship operated by HX Expeditions (formerly Hurtigruten Expeditions). Built in 2009 and fully reconstructed for expedition cruising in 2016, she is a highly agile, ice-strengthened vessel that carries just 150 guests, allowing her to access remote coastlines that larger ships cannot reach.

Named after the largest island in the Svalbard archipelago, the ship is explicitly tailored for Arctic and Antarctic voyages.

She was seen here at Fairlie Pier, were she was given a send off by the Millport Pipe Band.
