HMS Plymouth

HMS Plymouth was built at Devonport Dockyard, in her namesake city of Plymouth, and was launched by Viscountess Astor on 20 July 1959

She had an interesting career but is probably best remembered for the part she played during the Falklands war in 1982,she was attacked and badly damaged by the Argentine air force.

After her decommissioning in 1988 she was brought to the Clyde, sadly things never worked out for her and she has been to a few ports in search of a permanent home, her preservation is still in the balance.

I took these picture in 1982,and still recall viewing the scars she obtained during the Falkland war.

And now in danger again!

Not from Argentinian bombs this time, but the scrap-man!!

Because unless a berth can be found for her, this is how she will end up.

Hi Mart,

Here is hoping something will turn up.

Glasgow during the 80s didn't stand a chance of attracting tourists, the river is more tourist friendly these days with a lot more attractions,if only ...

Plymouth City Council have been dragging thier heels for more than 18 months now over the relocation of HMS Plymouth from Vittoria Docks in Birkenhead on Merseyside. This wonderful Rothesay Class Warship cannot be allowed to come near the Cutter's Torch. She was on the Clyde for a short time , why not again?

I cannot believe that this great ship, that I worked on as an apprentice in Chatahm in the 70's could be scrapped! It is a testament to the useless and inanactive council here in Plymouth, where I now live that they cannot be bothered to find a berth in her home city.
